Abortion pill serving Winston-Salem, North Carolina - Mifeprex and misoprostol

At A Woman’s Choice serving Winston-Salem, North Carolina, we offer ONLY  the FDA-approved Drug, Mifeprex, which has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the United States, as our non-surgical method for terminating a pregnancy.

If you are traveling to our clinics from a state that has banned abortion there is additional financial support available to you. This is subject to change but may apply if you are from Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, or Wisconsin.

Using the abortion pill(s) is a method that uses a combination of medications. Mifeprex (also known as  Mifepristone) blocks a hormone needed to sustain a pregnancy. The next medication, Misoprostol, then causes the uterus to contract and expel the uterine contents. This process is less invasive than a surgical procedure and is highly recommended for terminating an early pregnancy. The FDA has approved the use of this combination of medications to terminate pregnancies up to 10 weeks. In our Charlotte Office, some doctors limit the use of medication abortion to 9 weeks gestation.

Medication abortion process
After your ultrasound, lab work, and counseling session are complete and your medical history is reviewed, you will receive your first dose of the medication, Mifeprex. You will take this medication in our office.

The second dose of medication, Misoprostol, will be given for you to take the following day. You may be instructed to take this medication orally or to insert it vaginally. You will be given the option of taking this dose in the privacy of your own home, or you may return from the Winston-Salem, North Carolina area to the office if you prefer. Within 24 hours after taking Misoprostol, you should experience some cramping and bleeding. Your uterus will contract and its contents will be expelled.

How Effective Is the Abortion Pill?
